[DIY] Video Cables?
Question:

Having just invested £900 in one of those Panasonic AE100 projectors on the Bargain Forum I have realised that I'm going to need a sh*tload of cable to get the component video signal from my DVD player ( at the front of my room with my stereo ) to the projector ( at the back of my room - when it is delivered ). A quick surf on the Maplin website reveals a Van Damme professional video co-ax for £65/100m - a bit more than I need but I'm sure it'll find a use, however the cheapskate in me wonders if some standard co-ax will do the job? Does anyone have any experience building long video cables they'd like to share? I'm going to need around a 7m run. Also are there any places other than Maplin where I should be looking?
Cheers
Simon

Answers:

I made up my 9m component cables by getting 9m of Van Damme Red 4-core professional video coax from Maplin. This is effectively 4 runs of the video coax you mention in an outer sleeve and costs £4.50/m - i.e. £31.50 for 7m. I then stripped off the outer to give me the 3 (correctly coloured) runs of coax I need and one spare run should I want to run a composite cable up to the PJ. The picture is great - and the price is really not that great compared to the price of the PJ.
