Question:
Hi.
I have a question regarding the cheap end of the DVD player market that I hope you may be able to help me with.
I have a high end Sony DVD player and am going to buy another one for my kids bedroom. A friend of mine paid £79 for one from Safeways that plays just about every type of disc going inc jpeg picture files and has 5.1 output and a karaoke function , plus is region free.
The player is decent quality and to be honest has more features then mine, the Jpeg and karaoke function is the thing my kids want. Problem is my local Safeways don't have this model .
I assume its a re-badged model with a UK distributor. two things, does anymore know where I can buy a DVD player with this spec and why is it all the sub £80 DVD players have all these functions over the other budget sub £130 ones ?
The ability to play jpeg picture images is a must.
cheers
Anyone ???????
There isn't that many that have the karaoke function.
There is only a few that will play jpegs burnt to CDR or CDRW (though a lot more will play them if you burn them as a vcd slideshow).
The umax/yamada 2100 is multiregion ,plays all the formats (including jpegs) and has a 5:1 decoder built in. Its on sale at bigpockets.co.uk and blankdiscshop.co.uk I don't think it plays karaoke discs though (i take it you mean CD+G discs)

I can't think of any cheap players curently on sale with the ability to play karaoke (and with mic inputs) :(
You could check out the players at www.ebuyer.com though (they have quite a few cheapies)
The one Safeways was selling has got twin mic inputs for Microphones on the left hand side and the same spec as the one you listed.
I cant think of the model number , but they dont have it in our Safeways down here. Its very slim as well.
The one you be after is the Naiko N2081.
And if anybody can find one on the net, please post here because I'd quite like to get hold of one myself!!
Naiko N2081
Thats the one.
I know they have em for £79 in the safeways up Yorkshire way, but none down here.
Keeps the kids happy with the Jpeg and Karoke function and has DTS, 5.1 and VCD, multiregion ect ect ect
I would guess that safeway have sold em all, but the importer was a guy in London from a private address.
the bush2020ix that argos are selling in place of the roadstar does jpeg and is multiregion out the box, but no kareoke.£59
its not that good but, there you go.:gag:

the Umax is great apart from the dodgy firmware on it which results in the 5.1 decoder being almost useless (causes poping out of the speakers every couple of mins)
The Thompson 210 in Argos looks a good player, nicely styled and does JPEG. It's £89 (£149 in Dixons!!). No Karaoke though.
If anyone has any knowledge of this player please post.

The Naiko 2081 does not have mic inputs (i own the player myself - it was £59 from Safeway).
Anyone looking for one of these , ought to note that the Umax/Yamada is the same but with the addition of a dolby digital decoder (but the said decoder has problems with popping- so don't buy it if you intend to use this decoder - the digital output is problem free though, as is stereo output). bigpockets and blankdiscshop have them in stock.
The Safeway model with mic inputs could have been the Reoc (but most stores sold all these months ago).

Yep, its a Naiko, but not the 2081, I think !!!! its a 2001b.
On the box pf your 2081, it should have an address of the london distributer ???
That would help in tracking down 2001b ?
Wazz....
Just remebered this cheap DVD player that has the karaoke function (with mic inputs).
Its also very well specced with dolby digital and DTS decoder built in, multiregion, plays all the different formats.
Its a nice looking player too.
Don't ask me about the quality though ,as i don't own one.
Its £87.19 inc vat ... total price with delivery is £96
click here for full details (http://www.afterhours.co.uk/cgi-bin/SHPLoader.cgi?/Shop/2255.htm)
P.S.. I thought the Naiko 2001 was a Dansai 852 clone. If it is/was then it too does not have mic inputs.. ( i have a Dansai 852 in my bedroom).
Nope that aint it !!!
I finally found it. Its called a Compacts AB6820 ( also called Viewcom ).
Its similar to the one you just showed, but has two mic inputs on the left hand side.
I picked one up today and its excellent. :)
