marantz sr4300
Question:

just been searching the forum, this seems a good bit of kit, just thought id ask you lot for any reasons not to buy it before i do,

Answers:

Superceded by the SR4300 :)
Richer Sounds are selling the older SR4200 for £200.
Use this page (http://www.marantz.com/p_prod_compare.cfm?cont=e&line=avr) to compare the two :)
The 4300 adds 6.1 mainly : well worth the extra IMO.
Marantz amps/receivers are excellent quality : constant 5-star award winners in the press, excellent for both music and movies.
I'm about to plunge for the SR5300, upgrading from the excellent but dated Yamaha DSPA5.
Hope that helps

Remember when searching for the "cheapest" on something like Denon or Marantz, that the cheapest does not mean the best deal - All UK spec / dealers of these come with a full2 years warranty, some of the "discounters" only include a 1 year standard warranty.
Thought might be worth pointing out:)

I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these from my SR4200 as (for one thing) it has the DTS 'clicking' fault which affected early versions of that model.
What I really want to know is:- will the SR4300 take the 6 phono outputs required for DVD-AUDIO?. I bought a Tosh 510E a while back, but haven't been able to play any DVD-A tracks as the SR4200 isn't compatible.
I had a quick look at the comparison chart (from the link posted earlier in the thread) and got the impression that it would. Can anyone say for sure that it will be able to handle DVD-AUDIO material?.

Answers:

Should do as it has 6.1 in -DVD-Audio players have 5.1 out :)

Thanks Clayts.
It's just a shame that my SR4200 has that fault then, as it'll be difficult to shift (who would want to buy a dodgy amp?!). I'll have to find some way though, because like dynamic said, the SR4300 seems to have it all...

Tony Keats: Mine also has the clicking problem. Does this not mean we could just get it fixed or returned? I bought from RS and took a 3 year supercare warranty with it. What are RS like about things like this?

marantz recalled these when the original batches had problems, its basically a voltage problem. You could contact marantz direct, but if it came from RS its probably a euro import so I`m not sure how Marantz would treat it?

You've got every right to get it upgraded/swapped as obviously it's not performing to spec (DTS tracks aren't supposed to click like that!). As you have warranty, I can't see any reason why you'd have a problem...
In my case, I don't have any extended cover, although IIRC I did buy it from Justin's very own HomeCinemaHeaven, so presumably it's still covered by the basic 2 year warranty. I have no idea where the receipt/documentation is though and that's why I haven't chased this up before now.
