After a cheapo Video player .. help!
Question:

So i can record stuff, whilst im out and about with my hetic lifestyle (not) ..
Went to Dixons website, most of them seem to be refurbished .. dont know if this a good thing or a bad thing.
Not looking to pay much as I only need it for recording.
What would people recommend, the 2 I seen for under £50 on Dixons are Grundig, and Matsui -- they good makes? or not so good..
Any advice, greatly appreciated :)
Thx in advance :)

Asda were doing some cheap and cheerful ones for £49.99 with a free 3 year warranty before christmas.

I'd have a look in Asda as no matter how cheap it is they come with a 3 year guarantee.

Personally I would be cautious about buying a 2nd hand video. The heads are only made to last so long and unless you have a long warrenty then this could be a false economy. VHS is a bit of a dying thing with recordable DVD and hard drive recording getting cheaper - and thus videos are coming down in price. You can get a half decent one for about the £100 mark. If you aren't bothered about stereo then you will be able to get a really cheap one, however you can get stereo for £60 upwards.
Matsui are Curry's/Dixons own make. They are pretty much what you expect for a cheap video, bit noisy but I would say "and why not" - if all you want it for is recording the odd Eastenders episode.
Hope this is of some help.

I bought a Matsui and 2 years later it started chewing tapes. Guess some people are lucky and some not eh?

We also had a Matsui TV which we must have got in the 80s (sure seems like it) and that still works fine too, weird, i usually have more trouble from the larger name branded stuff, now there's my luck!

Seeing as you only want one to record the odd programme and aren't worried about the quality of the recording or sound, your best bet is to go for the cheapest mono vcr you can get.
I remember seeing an alba (I think) vcr in argos for £49.99, and last week in my local Safeway, they were selling a vcr for the same price: I think it was made by LG.
