Question:
Ok - bit of a strange one....got an old sub off a mate today from his car, and I don't really fancy having it in my car!
However, am thinking as I need a sub for my Digital Amp whether this can be wired to use it? It has a +R and +L for the speakers, and also a -12VRL and +12V on the back.
Any ideas how I could wire this? Would I just be able to connect speaker cable and use it as a passive sub or how do subs connect to amps?
You would normally use an active sub, this sounds like it has the 12V inputs required but you wont have a suitable 12v negative earth outlet in the house!
My recommendation would be to sell the car sub and put it towards a budget home cinema sub!
Car subs are designed to take into account the effect of cabin gain so normally don't work very well for home cinema use.
Lots of car subwoofer drivers have normally 2 - 4 Ohmns resistance compared to 8 Ohmns which a normal speaker is rated at so you need to be very careful if you want to use it as a passive subwoofer otherwise you could damage your Amp. If you dont know much about speakers then follow Krten's advice: sell it & buy a proper home cinema subwoofer.
Nice one guys - thanks both for the advice. Didnt think it would work but thought I would ask before trying to get rid of it and invest in a new one.....
Psssst, anyone need a car sub :D
