Question:
Due to an unfortunate accident with a couple of rug rats and two large magnets, my television now has two circles on the screen in wonderful purple and green!!!
I have been looking up on the net for solutions and a few places say it is permanent, where as others say it can be cured
Using the advice on the net the TV is currently off to allow it to cool down and then I will switch it back on as this may help but just in case it doesnt any suggestions, and please not "Go buy a new TV!!!"
I put it in here as it not really a computing or console problem!!
Cheers
Also if you have'nt done it already you need to have the plug out of the socket aswell I think.
Stuart.
A TV repair bloke should beable to fix it by waving a degause (sp?) wand over if ... overwise turn it off and on a few times to see if the internal degauser in the TV can shift it, but it sounds like a repair blokes job to me :(
SdG - Cheers for that, I hadn`t but I have now!!!
Fingers crossed, how long would you say it needs to be off for? I was thinking about 2 hours
This happend to me i just turned it off at the power over night abd it was fine the next day mate.

Dunno how long, but on must TV's you can hear it when it degauses ... you hear a "bong" type sound when you press the on button ;)
Couple of hours may be overkill. Most new (up to a few years old) TVs have a degauss function that activates when powered on from cold, so just just try unplugging it for a few minutes then plug in and switch on. If this doesn't work,. then a visit from an engineer to degauss it might be in order.
Thanks to all for all your help
Panic over - just switched it back on after 30 mins off and after the "BONG" all was well
Thanks again everyone
The forums and all have saved the day again!!!!! Where would we be without em!!
I remember doing this to our telly when I was a kid, got a good skelping for it at the time. It was great cos you could distort the picture using a magnet, but it did leave the horrible bluey green blotches..and hey presto they disapeared (after about three weeks:lol:)
he best way to sort this is to get a strong magnet and put it close to the centre of the screen(not on it) and start to rotate the magnet in a spiral movement going to the egde of the tele, this will put it right although you may have to do it a couple of times.
slightly off course, but who has magnets at home these days ?
Kids do!
Magnetic white boards, fridge magnets - lots of fun for kids:)

Sorry just realised the copyright at the bottom right hand corner, would have been a good joke in IMO. :D

During the world cup last year i took a portable into the office. I had to position the aerial all around the building before getting a decent picture. I settled for the aerial being propped up against the telephone exchange switch box. Well, the first time the phones rang, the picture turned all purple and green. It's still the same to this day. Is this the same problem ?....and if not, is there anybody out there who knows if it can be fixed or not ?
Any help greatly appreciated.
You need one of these:

Or any TV engineer worth his salt will prolly do it for £20 ;)
