Pureflat or normal 28" Widescreen ?
Question:

I can either get a Pureflat TV for £350, not the best of makes, or pay the same for a better brand none flat TV. (Samsung that is £299 or a tosh) in the bargin forums
Max budget is £350.

Answers:

For a 28" there isn't too much difference. If you go bigger it must be flat as the curve gets very noticable.
Have you been able to demo either/both of them? The Samsung maybe pretty good for £300, but the Toshsiba will almost definately be good!

For your budget I'd say the Panny DK1 is, by far, the best choice.
It's £396 on the Curry's website and there's a 10% voucher floating about on the Bargain Forum. You'll have to hunt it out though, it's been hidden due to t+c's.
The Panny is not fully flat, and only 50hz but still a fantastic, quality, piece of kit. Picture, with a digital source, is one of the best at any price.

I audtioned quite a few of both sorts and was convinced that a flat screen 28" was better than curved. Got a Panny TX28PL1 which at around £450 now (I think) is a bit out of your range but I'd say go for a flat screen if you can. Having had it since July now, it's certainly easier to watch from more angles than my old non-curved was. :)
But I would agree that you must have a good demo of both - and when you're doing it be realistic about the type of refelctions you might get while you're watching at home, so don't have a demo in a dark corner of the shop where there may be fewer reflections - unless of course you live in a dark corner at home in which case fine. :D

Toshiba 28'' Widescreen TV 28W23B What about this for £319, but the TV is straight infront of the seat, and I only watch films etc in the dark so reflection aint an issue.
Gonig of the extra cost off a pure flat for a named brand now

I've just done the rounds of TV testing myself and theres no doubt in my mind pureflat offers a much better viewing experience than any curved TV set.
The thing to keep in mind is that a pureflat should have a slightly bigger visable screen because the distance from one corner to the other is completely straight (flat) where as a curved set has a bend to take into account.
Also it's visually more pleasing. 2.35:1 films will highlight the curve of a non flat screen as the black borders come forward slightly in the middle of the set and get further away at the sides.
It probably doesnt bother most people but it is something to consider. The main advantage for chosing a flat screen over a curved though is that most curved 28" TVs have no tilt control. Flat screen ones generally do and unless you like watching films as if your on the Titatic I'd recommend you pick a flatscreen with tilt control.
With the discount mention previously you can pick up the Panny flatscreen PL1 for around £420 delivered from Curries online (usual highstreet store price is around £500 - £550).
I recommend you only ever buy a WS set with tilt control which almost certainly means buying a flatscreen.
