Question:
Comet have decided in their infinate wisdom to class my current Thomson 32WR25UG as a write-off as they cannot get the parts to fix the picture rotation. So I can either get a refund, or get a replacement.
That is all well and good except they don't stock the same tv anymore and don't appear to have anything comprable (on the website at least).
Anyway, time to get to the point I suppose. Anyone got/demo'd/broken any of the following which are all about £450/500.
Sharp 32JW73H
Sanyo 32WN5
Philips 32PW6006.
The Philips seems to be loved and hated in equal measures depending on whether the picture is too dark or not. I can't find a huge amount on the other two.
I'd go for the Philips 32PW6006 no question.
The dark RGB issues seemed to affect a bad batch around the middle of last year. You should be safe now, If you are unlucky enough to get one that's too dark take it straight back and swap it until you get one that works fine.
I've got a 28PW6006 which, as far as I'm concerned, is great. The reviews for it were extremely good at the time, although it isn't a true flat screen. Homecinemachoice have a review of it here (http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/Televisions/Philips/Philips28PW6006.php). However, after I bought it I did start seeing loads of messages from people complaining about theirs having a dark picture, or incorrect geometry :(
...but, like I say - no problems with mine :)
Looks like it might be the Philips then :)
I've got to visit Comet later to sort it out, so may find something there, otherwise I might try and offer them a silly price to buy my tv back off them as it's not unusable.
Well Comet had nothing worth getting at a sensible price (no real surprise), so have promised a full refund as soon as I take the tv back. They'd have collected it but I'll hang on til the replacement appears.
In a moment of weakness/insanity I ordered a Philips 32PW6506 which I'm hoping will arrive soon.
don't forget you can get 5, 7.5 or 10% off at curries online with codes
5% Discount on orders over £50 UKFRENZY5PC
7.5% Discount on orders over £249 UKFRENZY7PC
10% Discount on orders over £500 UKFRENZY10PC
£10 Discount on the Grundig Digital receiver UKFRENZY565302
The 32PW6006 is a great set and online can be picked up fairly cheap. I'd get one myself if I had the room for a 32" TV.
Like tips4tnt I owned two of the 28" versions and despite loads of people complaining of problems with darkness I didnt experience it on either set. My only major gripe was a lack of tilt control and both sets had a slant of a good 5mm's.
The 32" version has a picture rotation menu which easily corrects this issue so it's not a problem.
