dvd/video combis - scart socket needed?
Question:

Does anyone have a combination unit that can work using just the RF aerial. I am thinking of getting one of these for my parents but they have a old telly with no scart socket.
I realise this is not the best connection but it will do until they can
get a better telly and will replace their dead video.
thanks

Don't believe it's possible to connect any DVD player via an RF connection (composite, S-Video, Scart and Component seem to be the only connections possible).

If you can find a DVD player that can supports the disabling of Macrovision copy protection, then you can plug the DVD player into a VCR via the Scart sockets, and the connect the VCR to the TV via RF.
You need to be able to stop the Macrovision or else the VCR will mess up the signal on copy protected discs :(

...just had another thought - I'm sure I've seen posts about an RF convertor you can buy that connects to the Scart socket and provides an RF signal, although I think they are fairly expensive. You can probably find more info at Maplins.

If I've read your question right Beastman, you're asking about dvd/video combis, yes? Well my sister's just got an Aiwa HV-DH1 dvd/vhs combi unit, and it outputs everything through the RF socket, even NTSC->PAL transcoded video from the dvd. Pretty sweet, I thought. Now all I need to do is find a multiregion hack for this one and she'll be able to play any dvd through a crappy 14" tv with no scart socket!

anyone else know of a dvd/vcr combo that works without a scart?
