Question:
Anyone have any idea how much I might get if I sold my Sony 7700 DVD player second hand?
It's multi-region (though not RCE compatible), excellent quality player, I paid £900 quid for it about 3 1/2 years ago, just wondered how much I'd be likely to get for it as I'm thinking of getting a progressive scan player (as I have a projector).
I imagine that it won't go for a huge amount for it but anyone have any ideas, oh, still got the box, manuals etc.

To be honest all depends on what version you have. Theres many versions, for example the original models were imports from HK, then when released here in `99 there (from us at least!) were options of either a basic auto only mod (not RCE these days) or a full manual mod with macro off.
I`ve never bothered to sell mine (sat in the loft currently), in fact i`m more tempted to sell my resident DVPS9000ES.
As good condition S7700s are in demand from some people you could get up to £250-£300. I saw a asian S7700 go for £230 on Ebay before xmas! So a modded R2 model mint should get a similar price. At the very minimum, I`d say about £200. Any less then that and I`d just keep hold of it - they, (as they say) don`t make them like that any more.....
I've got one and I wouldn't change it for the world. Plays RCE disks and the manual region change is a dream. Just press the number of the region yuo want to select and then press return. Hey presto it's now a R1 player.
Cost me £700 quid three years ago but it was money well spend. Picture quality is fantastic.
Mine's a Hong Kong player with auto region select, no macrovision disabler and doesn't cope with RCE. So looks like I'd not get much over £200 for it.
Probably hang on to it then, if I could have got closer to 300 for it I might have considered selling it and upgrading to a progressive scan player but as I'm a bit skint at the moment I guess that'll have to wait!
I'll agree with what's been said, it's an excellent player and it's only the lack of progressive scan that's even made me consider changing it!

If it had RGB out via scart, you`d be hard pressed to notice much of a benefit with prog scan anyway - i`ve been switching between RGB and prog for the past few months and cannot decide which I prefer - thats been with 3 different prog enabled DVD players!
IMO I`d keep it and pop it in the bedroom:)
I'm using the component output on the Sony, doesn't have scarts.
I'm suprised you haven't noticed any difference with Prog Scan, I tried a friends fairly old portable Prog Scan player and I could notice a significant difference in the picture, mainly much smoother panning and a more stable image. The only thing that let the player down was that the decoder was not as good as the sony so there was more noticeable blocking. Thats on a Panasonic projector.
What are you watching on?

Its my opinion, thats all. I didn`t say I didn`t notice any difference, but with using either my resident Sony 9000ES or an Arcam FMJ27 via RGB with a decent £80 scart, you`d be hard pressed to notice a difference and to tell which is which. On cheaper machines there *is* a difference, as well as a difference between component only out models such as my old S7700 (looking washed out compared to RGB sources on any display item, including CRT).
My home system is a Pioneer Plasma, and a Marantz VP12 projector, but I`ve noticed exactly the same (and pointed it out) on many installs, inc pana plasmas and projectors and demos.
