Question:
Bush is £249 (was £269) in tesco and the beko is £229 (was £249)
Both silver etc and current models.
Which is the better brand to buy ?
Beko
Any reason why ?
Beko probably is the better of the two but it has obvious limitations because of the price.
Poor virtical geometry and a lack of screen modes mainly but it does have a good picture and if you use it purely to watch 'anamorphic' dvds then its good for the money.
But heavy over scan and lack of screen modes make it a no go for anyone who has alot of non-anamorphic and/or subtitled discs.

Any examples of heavy over scan DVDs ?
Lack of screen modes, if it can do 16:9 that should be fine for me, what are the advantages of others ?

16:9 anamorphic is fine but it still has a fair bit of over scan (all sets do to an extent). If all you want it for is to watch anamorphic dvds then it should be fine. The lack of screen modes though means you won't be able to manually increase screen size to fit the screen, you wont be able to modify 4:3 to fit 16:9 (other than fully stretching it in 16:9 mode), and you will often lose subtitles at the bottom on the screen because of a lack of screen modes to fit their placement and heavy over scan.
maybe you could try this http://www.hienergyshop.co.uk/sse/entertain.asp?did=217&pid=1744 (though I think you can now get it cheaper somewhere else)
I have it, and it has these different screen modes - 16:9, 4:3, 14:9(?), zoom and subtitle
The 32" Bekos had Thomson tubes in them not long ago, so it may be worth taking your torch and having a peak down the vents to check the 28". The Thomson tube was a good performer and apart from the poor sound output, made the 32" Beko a real value buy.
our first venture into 32" widescreen was via cheapo bush, picture was excellent but the sound was extremely poor, it was returned and we went for the extra £500 (at the time) and got a toshiba - worlds apart.
my mom who isn't intrested in sound quality etc. brought herself a beko 28", its ok as a basic set or bedroom set but she has had to have a new transformer (i think) and tube in 12 months.
also wouldn't go for the black diamond sets as they use same set cabinets as bush, watson etc. and are made in china.
