Question:
Right folks just wondering peoples opinions on above topic. Basically my father-in-law was muttering on yesterday about how he was popping to Currys to get a Pioneer DVD+VHS all in one as it would sit nicely in his 'traditional' TV cabinet & allow him to play DVDs. I screamed 'Don't do it!' for the following reasons-
1. He's not the biggest film fan in the world so wouldn't get round to watching many discs. He's more interested in the odd film & use of time shifting/recording from TV.
2. As far as I'm aware these combo's are 'average' in features & playback quality.
3. VHS surely must be on the way out with DVD recorders & recordable media dropping in price all the time. Therefore he will end up with an average DVD player sitting in the same box as an out dated recording/playback medium.
I basically said if he held off for say 6-12 months then the DVD recording format war should be resolved (or there should be some indications as to which format is preferred) plus prices would be cheaper.
Any other advice or comments? (or am I totally wrong?)
Cheers
Matt
And if the VHS part breaks (which is more likely than the DVD player failing), you're left with a bulky and stupid looking DVD player.
Would agree that a DVD Recorder might be the better option for your Father-In-Law. Both the Panasonic DVD-R30 plus the Philips DVDR880 can be had on-line for little more than the price of combined units from a High Street store.
Food for thought...
