New or secondhand, and what size room?

The only sub's which i only ever heard people raving about is REL's range, seems abit silly as there so expensive.... i would be interetsed in a mid range decent sub.

Friend has bought the Eltax 6.2 to go with his eltax speakers. Sounds quite impressive for such a small sub. He does have quite a big room tho (about 20' x 15') and it does need the sub channel on the amp cranking up a bit aswell as the volume on the sub to get the full benefit.
The Eltax Atomic A80 would be the honey but there wasnt any in-stock before xmas and he was inpatient!

You get what you pay for IMO - REL's start at £350 or so for the Quake.
Also well worth seeking out are Velodyne subs - the CHT-10 can be had for £325 online.
Anything less than this will mean compromises are to be made, Subs are hugely important in a 5.1/6.1/7.1 set-up.

Go to your local Richer Sounds and try out a Morduant Short MS308 (Premiere) have a look here (http://www.richersounds.com/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=205748) if you don't have the budget to go for what Radiohead has recommended.
