Flickering picture on region 1 DVDs
Question:

I have got a Hitachi TV (about 12 months old - I can't remember the model number but it is something like C28FWN)..
When I play region 1 DVDs (I have a multiregion Toshiba SD220) I get a very slight flickering in the bottom left corner of the TV screen that I don't get with region 2 DVDs. I don't think it is the scart lead or anything such as that because (1) the picture is otherwise brilliant and (2) I used to have the same problem when playing region 1 dvds through my Playstation 2.
Any ideas what the problem may be? Is it just a case of the quality of NTSC not being as good on my telly?
Thanks.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but on my new tv (Sony 32FQ75), I get a slight flicker in the corner on NTSC titles, but only if I put my TV in 50Hz mode.
The FQ75 is a 100Hz TV but has the option of 50Hz (still digitally processed though). Normally I use 100Hz, but on R1 titles the scan lines are very noticeable (I'd hoped 100Hz digital processing would fix this but it doesn't), however the FQ75 has a nice mode called DRC50, although it's not very nice on PAL because 50Hz flickers too much, but with NTSC I'm guessing it runs at 60Hz and the normal flicker is far less noticeable. The big bonus of DRC50 is it gets rid of the scan lines , however I do notice a flicker just in the corner (doesn't seem to be just 60Hz TV flicker). Once I get into a film though I don't notice it.
On my old Sony (28FX20) which was a 50Hz set, I never noticed a flicker in the corner with NTSC. Obviously it flickers more in general as it's not a 100Hz set, but not in the same way as my new TV.
I've got decent quality scarts and stuff, but because it only happens in certain modes and on NTSC, I very much doubt it's anything to do with connections, but is more likely to do with the digital processing in the TV.

I have the very same problem with my JVC 32" widescreen TV and Tosh DVD player - but only with R1 Pan & Scan.

I think this has been discussed bofore so if you haven't already you might want to try a search.
I "think" it was something to do with the power supplies of the TV and DVD player being 50Hz and small variations in the power supply 50 Hz and the 60Hz video output from the DVD player.

I have the same problem with my Panasonic widescreen with NTSC 1.85:1 films (also happened with my old Sony with 4:3 films).
I remember from old discussions (like pt800 said) that it has something to do with variations in the power supply. Some people switched off all other appliances in the house, or tried using different wall sockets and extension cables to cure it. I've tried these but they didn't work for me. I tried my setup at my parents house and it worked fine with no flicker at all so it looks like I could be stuck with it for now.
I've also noticed that the flicker varies throughout the day. If I watch an NTSC disc during the day the flicker is quite noticable, but if I put the same disc on in the evening the flicker is barely noticable at all.
