Question:
I might be buying a friends but i've never seen this make before?
Great players. They play everything you throw at them.
Just got my daughter a Cyberhome 402 for christmas. Its a great little player. Plays anything you can throw at it eg. SVCD, VCD, DVD-r, MP3, CD-r etc. Easily hackable to multi-region and a very good looking player as well. Bargain at less then eighty quid :)
Didn't have a 5.1 decoder onboard though. If you wanted one with the decoder then the Cyberhome 505 is very similar and plays alsorts of disks as well.
My brother got a Cyberhome 402 from wh smiths £79. As the above said they play everything that is tossed at em.
Very nice cheap dvd player
another vote for the 402. friend bought one from smiths on weekend and is well chuffed with it. plays everything just as well as my pioneer 545
They must have cut corners somewhere to make them this cheap though, so I would expect it's lifetime to be a little shorter than normal.
Build quality is notoriously bad on Cyberhome players. There are more posts on faults on Cyberhome's than other budget brands.
I would advise anyone buying a Cyberhome (or any budget brand DVD player), to buy locally and not online. That way you can easily swap it if you are unlucky and recieve a faulty one. They are also well known for noisy drive units.
There are players just as cheap that play more formats than the Cyberhome . The Cyberhome has problems with some DVD-R (depending on how/ which software they are burned with) that plays fine on other budget models. Some brands can play JPEGs off discs and also Kodak picture CDs (which the cyberhome can't).
The big plus with Cyberhome is that firmware upgrades are posted on the net at www.cyberhome-help.de Its worth looking at that site for detailed reviews. Also look through the forums on that site to get some idea of problems/quirks of the player ;)
The Cyberhome is a good buy ,but there are better ones about . The £59 Naiko that Safeway were selling is a better buy (cheaper, multiregion straight out of the box and plays more formats). Its also sold under the Yamada and Umax brand name (forum sponsors - bigpockets stock it).
Also check out Arias own brand drive. I believe it is a rebadged Yamada player that was mentioned earlier. They look gorgeous (super slim at only 44mm high) and are s'posed to cope with alsorts of formats.
