Question:
Okay, so she's leaving me, taking with her the DVD player (which I did originally buy as a present for her).
I can't afford, for obvious reasons, to lash out a fortune on a new player.
so what's the best player, sub £100 quid?
I don't need 5.1 or DTS, although any "all in packages" would be considered.
thanks.
There are a few sub £100 bargain type "cheap and cheerful" models. Some info on budget players here: &threadid=133564
I got a Mustek V520 (I think that's the model no) free when I got a new mobile phone from mobileshop.com.
It's R2 as default but there's a remote hack which I've done. It also plays VCD/SVCD/MP3 etc and I guess that those Dolby Digital and DTS stickers on the front means I can play those formats (although I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive so I'm not speaking from experience)
I think that they're only about £70 to buy anyway, maybe take a look.
Hope that helps
I'd be cautious with a cheapie. I had a Bush 2004, which caught fire and could have burned my house down if I'd not been in. Probably a one off but they are made to a budget
.
RS are doing the Tosh 220e for £99, shops only though apparently.

Richer Sounds do quite a few sub £100 DVD players, the Acoustic Solutions ones are good for the price - they start at £60 for a basic one (DVD321), and for £70 you get a multi region one (DVD421).
My brother has the 421 and it was very impressive for the price, and seems quite nicely built and finished compared to some of the cheap ones i've seen in the supermarkets.
Safeway were selling a Naiko model early in December for £60. I managed to pick one up for my mum just before Xmas. I had to phone around a few branches to find one with stock left.
Very good player for £60. Build quality good. Multi-region out of the box apparently, no VCR friendly hack so far. It will play all types of disk, mp3, vcd, svcd, jpeg's.

You can get a MR Tosh 220e, for £120, however I got mine for £110 :D
You can upgrade Tosh 220es to MR via disc, I think.
Aren't the Tosh 220e's a bit dodgy with DVD-R disks though? not sure if that is of concern, but worth mentioning I think.
There is a good thread here &threadid=133564 It shouldn't have dated all that much.
hth :)
