help with pro logic
Question:

can i hook up my dvd player (lennoxx 8700) to my prologic reciever and get a surround ound when playing movies (ie if they are 5.1 dts etc) the sound seems to come from onl the center channel and not any of the others - muic dvds with a stereo soundtrack seem to be alright but not movies.

Answers:

First, a pro-logic receiver will only give you pro-logic surround, not full 5.1 digital surround. This means that the rear effects not discrete or full range.
How are you connecting the DVD to the receiver and what mode are you setting the DVD player and receiver too?
(edited due to ingorance) - Indeed, welcome to the forums

Answers:

If the ProLogic reciever has 5.1 inputs and the DVD player does the decoding then this would be possible, if not then you should get Pro-Logic which will be sourced from a stereo signal.
You will need to check that the DVD player is set to the correct decode mode depending on how you have it hooked up. As soberion said, we need to know a little more about how you have this connected.
P.S. Welcome to the forums!

Also depends if the dvd player can downmix the sound to DPL level some do and some don't. Certainly all depends on the DVD player but for sure if you only have a DPL reciever and DVD player that can downmix to DPL it will give you front, left and center and rear sound a.k.a. DPL.

my reciever is just pro logic but thats all i have - i just want to get a surround effect similar to what i get with hi fi vhs. what does the downmix need to be set to to achieve this?

Answers:

Downmix should be set to off if you are just using the stereo output from the DVD player. Or at least thats what my manual says anyway for my players. Switching downmix on effects the digital output on my player, the analog is already mixed to Stereo/DPL. Try both settings and see if you get a better signal with on or off!
