Dynamic Compression - On or Off?
Question:

In the audio menu of my Samsung 511, there is an option called Dynamic Compression. Should this be turned on or off?

Answers:

I believe this only affects DD tracks downmixed into stereo by the player. Setting the Dynamic Compression on reduces the dynamic range of the sound, ie. the volume of the loud bits is reduced and the quiet bits are made louder. Sometimes called "Night Listening Mode" on other players :)
I don't think it has any effect on the DD digital output (but RTFM!)

What Anorakus said. Only affects downmixed output via the phono outs or scart out (e.g. play sound through TV or just stereo - not DD/DTS decoder).
If you do use TV/Stereo then try with on and off on the same piece of a disc or two and see what you think sounds better as thats all that really matters! Personally I would have set to off if I didn't use a seperate decoder, but depending on your setup it may sound better on.
