Question:
Courtesy of the Bargain Forum, I am now the proud owner of the Vidoelogic Digitheatre DTS system. This is my first surround sound setup and I'm very happy with it. As you know, it comes with a co-axial cable to allow the signal to be generated from the DVD. Would I be better off buying a better cable, be it the same kind or an optical cable, or is the one supplied good enough. To me, it sounds good, but if a better cable would give better sound then so be it. Don't really want to spend to much, maybe about £20.
Also, when it comes to mounting to speakers on the wall, do I have to buy the proper wall mountings from Videologic, or can I get some from Argos?
Thanks for any help and guidance :)
from what i understand it does'nt make any difference, the signal sent through the cable is digital so quality is'nt an issue, the signal either gets to the receiver or it does'nt

Just got my Videologic Digitheatre DTS system today too.. its excellent when selected to analog input but there is nothing coming out when trying to use the digital coax input. Any chance of telling me what led's are illiminated on your middle speaker when the DVD is outputing digital and what happens if you set the DVD to send out analog please... i am using the lead that came with the system.. its got a single yellow plug on each end .. i am assuming this is the one to use ?
I bought the wall mountings from Videologic, you get a set of 4 even though you'll probably only use 2. I also bought some mountings from Argos, the Argos ones were a nightmare and required you to put holes in the back of the speakers! The videologic ones are specially designed and very easy to use.
With the cable, from what I have read you might as well stick with the digital coaxial included in the box. I did buy an optical cable but then realised my DVD player had no optical output (hadnt thought to check). I cannnot comment on any difference between the coaxial and the optical sound wise but have read on these forums that there isnt any difference in sound quality. If you do want an optical cable then Homebase do them with adaptors included for about £8-£10.
Hope this helps

The quality is the same with coaxil/optical cables, i dont even think a good quality cable will matter either unless its totally cheap and nasty, its just down to personal taste, i go for optical everytime, but thats because of the gimmick of the red light shining out of the end
Euro are you using the coaxial lead as well from your dvd player to the sub? The red and white leads will give you analogue but the coaxial cable (the black cable that looks like tv aerial cable) gives the sub it's digital signal. With only the red and white lead you will only get analogue.

I am indeed. Any idea how you can check that there is actually a digital output coming from the DVD player?
The light that comes on when you get an input from the coaxial cable is the second light down underneath the input button. If that light comes on and you get sound then it's working. One thing though is the dvd you are using in dolby digital? Most are but a few old ones are just stereo sound. If you have a copy of Gladiator that is a good test since you can select to use the dts soundtrack on the menu in the film. Only a digital signal is ent then and the dts light comes on as well on the centre speaker.

Thanks for the reply... the led you mention comes on, but this comes on even if i don't connect the coax cable. It seems to just come on when selected as the input no matter what inputs are actually being received. Nothing i do makes the DTS LED illuminate on the centre speaker :(
I was using Lord of the Rings DVD with the output selected to DTS.
Are the coaxial connectors on the dvd and the Digitheatre both firm have read before that the solder can come loose on some players. Or maybe you just have a dodgy cable, I wonder if a normal coaxial aerial lead would fit and work? You could try it I suppose. If not then try contacting videologic Tech support on the website. They are very good.
Sorry I couldnt be more help

You have to set the DVD player to output DTS and you also have to select DTS on the DVD disc menu as well before you can get DTS sent to the Digitheatre. If you've already done this and set the player outputs to the correct settings, then maybe there is a problem
Can anyone tell me if the VideologicDTS can output DD5.1/DTS on video game consoles which support the audio format ?. A review I've read suggests the system only supports pro-logic 2.1 when using console's.

You have helped draiggoch .. thanks for your suggestions. i think i will have to call VideoLogic on monday.
8-]: Thanks mate. I have tried every which setting on the DVD and the movie... I think I have a problem with the amp or DVD but how to work out which???

There is always the possibility that it is the DVD player.
Do you have a friend with a DVD player you could use to test your system?

Good idea.. at least that will eliminate the player :) Cheers 8-]

It can indeed, as i use my Videologic DTS theatre for my PS2 + Vice City which supports DTS and it deffo works
I'm not sure about Digital Co-axial, but I had the same problem as you did with my Digital Optical cable. Fortunately, I solved it myself - how obvious it was when I discovered the problem.
I bought an IXOS cable, and printed on it was little directional arrow signs running along the cable. If you plug it backwards, you woudn't get any signal, but if you do plug the right way, it works! Hmmm..... strange, I didn't know that the light signals are directional.
