Do I need a new DVD player - if so which one?
Question:

Hi everyone - hope you all had a good Crimbo. Got plenty of new dvds to add to our ever growing collection. But I've got a problem with 'Goldmember' and 'SW - EP2'. We've got a Cyberhome ADM512 with analogue and DTS output with a Grundig 5.1 SS kit.
Basically Goldmember plays up until the main menu and then stops and EP2 disc 1 refuses to play at all - disc 2 is fine. Goldmember works on a mates PS2, but didn't get a chance to test EP2. Also got BTTF Trilology which works fine. Also Toy Story 2 plays only 10% of the time, but plays okay on other machines.
I tried to get the latest firmware update (Was on 9.8) from Cyberhome, but it looks like they are no longer supporting this player. Tried an unofficial 9.9 update, but it didn't help.
Tried cleaning the lens to no avail. I presume there is something on these two discs that my machine simply cannot read? I tried switching from region 13 to region 2 but that didn't help either.
Does this look like a case of the more newer films will not play on my machine? If so, it means a new machine.
I was thinking of a PS2 but lack of analogue 5.1 out and things like messing about with DVD-X put me off, so I am back to looking for a cheap (Max. about £130) player that is multi region, single region (RCE) switchable and has 5.1 out (With or without DTS). I was thinking of the Wharfedale M5, but that came out when I got my Cyberhome about 1.5 years ago, so times and technology have moved on and my new player knowledge is a little rusty.
Any ideas please?!
cheers

Hi - thanks for the info - had a look on Amazon about all three - people seem to be raving over all of them, although the Toshiba seems to be the top of the pile - anyone have a price on this? Is it multi region hackable by remote or does it need to be chipped?

Have a closer look at Amazon to find the answers to your questions.

Okay, so it is already chipped, so does that mean it will play RCE discs, something which they are not going to tell you on the Amazon site?

Yes

Okay; so the Toshiba 220 is on the cards - does anyone have it and can tell me what they think of it? You see, sprog number 3 is due in early April and soon the wife is going to be closing the purse strings to expenses such as new dvd players soon, so I have to get this purchase right. So this chip basically means no more sodding around with remotes etc, just pop the disc in the draw and off you go?
thanks for your patience
