Question:
Hi, I have th above 2 machines, and I am trying to get 5.1 sound working.
The problem is that the DVD has stereo, coaxial and optical output, whilst the HiFi has stereo or the old analogue 5.1 input (an rf plug for each speaker type affair).
I can get Dolby Surround sound working without a problem using the two sterao outs from the dvd going into the stereo ins on the HiFI, but there is also an optical in on the hifi that is primarily used (I guess) for attaching a mini-disc.
I have tried connecting the optical out from the DVD to the optical in abd changed the DVD setup from analogue audio out to SPDF/Raw, but I can;t get any sound at all with this. ( I have tried both the DVD channel on the HIFI and the mini-disc channel)
I'm guesing that I can;t do what I was hoping to do with my current set-up so I was wondering if anyone knew of a DAC (Digital - Analogue Converter) that I could use to convert the optical output from my DVD player to the old 1-plug-per-speaker setup (whatever it's called).
I've had a looked around the net but I can't anything that looks remotely useful....
TIA
Glosh
I gave up trying to get the two to talk to each other.
The optical connection I use for for recording cds to mini disc. I doubt it can be used for dvd playing.
I shall be watching this thread with interest tho'.
