If a subwoofer isnt powered does that mean its not active?
Question:

Just wondering because i am going to get thr pioneer dcs303 or 505 (Probably 505) but i dont think they have active sub woofers and i want true 5.1 sound.

As far as i'm aware an active subwoofer is one that has it's own amp and control electronics built in, and i'm pretty sure will always be self powered.
My Yammy sub is 'Active' and that has it's own amp inside and needs it's own power.

Active referers to whether the sub has it's on amp or not. Active being a sub with one. The system in the links has a passive sub. All this means is that the sub is powered from the amp in the dvd player. You will still get true 5.1.
