Question:
Don't want to start an arguement, but what TV's have you lot got.
I have a naiko
When i upgrade i will most probably buy in this order, depending on the bargain forum ;)
1. Toshiba
2. Panasonic
3. JVC
4.Sony
5.Philips
Always had Panasonics in the past but I recently bought a Hitachi and it's :rocker: .
Symo
Sony, but I'm biased as hell.
Toshiba for me and never had a problem with them.
Panasonic first - Toshiba second :smokin:
Forget the rest!
Especially
1. Sony
2. Phillips
3. JVC
in that order
Toshiba. for me
i have a nice 36ZP18Q. and its a :shocker:
Only minor issue (well may be minor or major for you) is that my panasonic tele (29" 4:3 one, must be about 4-5 years old now) has issues with accepting RGB NTSC signals, can do NTSC over svideo fine though.
I asked on another forum and some other guy had exactly the same issue - don't know how widespread it is amongst panasonic tv's though.
Apart from that my Panasonic has done me admirable service - but if I was to get one now (might be getting one after xmas) then I would look at the Toshiba range - had some good reviews.
Since most of those manufactures utilize Philips tubes in a lot of their sets, I think I'll stick to Sony (although their geometry's generally pretty poor :noid: )
I have a Panasonic and was close to buying a Toshiba. Others would probably be a short list, Pioneer for RP and Plasma and Philips for Plasma. Also have had Mitsubishi in the past without problems.
Loewe without a doubt. They only change their models every five years or so because they spend so much on the sets themselves.
Pure quality.
PJ
I`m a Sony Slut!!! ;) :dork:
Another vote for Sony :rocker:
None of your 'top' five. It would have to be Loewe or B&O for the 'Best TV make'.
Sony for me then Philips
The Loewe Aconda is a damn fine TV and I will get one as soon as funds pick up.
But for now I have a Panasonic 28PK10 - Picture is good for the money (About 2 years old) and don't have any problems with the RGB-NTSC signal.
I have a Panny PL1, I've noticed that S-video looks a bit better than RGB - not that this bothers me as it means I can use the second scart without thinking that I'm compromising on quality. Thing is if you look on say the AV forums (www.avforums.com) then you'll find that everyone has loads of bad stuff to say about every single TV out there - very confusing, so if I was choosing a new telly tomorrow I don't know what I'd go for - possibly a Toshiba or another Panny - but this time bigger:norty:
Sony are my fave make...
...but my new Grundig 28" is the dog's testicles! Good bargain too. :)
Years ago, bought a JVC Pro-logic that was fantastic, (and is still going strong). Always like Panasonics, but have finally plumped for a Toshiba after extensive testing, (taking my Marantz DVD into the store for a few hours helped sort the wheat from the chaff).
Love my 32ZD Strata like a large, rectangular, electronic child. :dork:
Another vote for Loewe, can be had quite reasonably if you look around.
They seem to be the only manufacturer that take the trouble to tweak and setup their sets properly before they leave the factory.

Got an Aconda as have a few other forum members and they are a cut above the rest.
Price wise they have come down and you can get one in a blueish colour for around a grand. Much better than the WEGA's and in a similar price range.
Sony, and then Panasonic
Panaphonics and Sorny:D
Toshiba and LG
Toshiba cos most of them have component in!
Why don't more manufacturers provide them? Can't cost that much more to put a set onto a tv can it?
I like Sony's and then Panasonic. I did try a Toshiba and went through two of them in under a week.
Sony Trinitron 1st
I did try a Tosh,Philips,JVC & Panny before I decided the Sony was for me. I do agree the geomentry can be a bit off..this is sorted in the service menu:)
cheers Steve
Easily Sony for me then Toshiba
Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba! They are the Ford Escort's of the TV range!!!!
Get a designer model!
:shocker:
It's Sony for me
Wouldnt touch a Sony, I've got a lovely Tosh 32ZD09
If I had the money tho I'd go for a Loewe
I love my sony, I love it dearly.
32" of pure viewing pleasure. :D
my mate had a tosh it EDIT with in 6 months so the shop exchanged it for a new sony as all the tosh's were coming back on a regular basis :nono:
Take another look at the T&C's regarding searing.
Gavin M, u might want to edit the swearing in you're post there matey :nono:
I have a 7 year old Toshiba 2535DB and the picture is first class. Colours are so realistic and detail is superb.

Panasonic. Definitely, however, Sony new one looks nice. Actually though for picture quality alone the Phillips stuff is pretty darned good.
I've also got a 5/6 year old 4:3 Panasonic 29" and thats fine on NTSC - console games and video input both from SVideo and Scart RGB.....hmmm u sure u were using the RBG scart and not the composite scart (The one with the satellite dish on it?)
As for now - Panasonic 36PB50 - bit of interference from other channels until I butchered my (v expensive) scart cable to prevent the picture going both ways from my $ky box, but other than that, its loverly....
Got a little one and we swapped the open cabinet for the 36PG50 closed one which was great (and free plus we got to keep the 'spare' centre speaker as the enclosed untit has one built in!) plus DD and DTS built into the TV - no cables for me everywhere now. Much happier wife.
Hello
Regarding your question about TV brands.
For reliability and high performance
Panasonic
Sony
Philips
For reliability
Sanyo
Samsung
Dodgy performance but goI have a Sony 36FS70 and I'm very happy with it (picturewise), but I prefer the operating menu (is that the right phrase?) of the Philips.
Sony don't put enough thought into what a user wants from their tv.
I had never regarded JVC as a good brand, but my current flat screen 32" w/s is very good - had no problems on the reliability front and the picture is excellent on Sky and with DVDs and PS2. It also has a well designed & logical menu and control system, which some makes haven't managed to do.
The picture from analogue is quite poor but as I don't even have it connected to an aerial anymore that doesn't matter!
Toshiba allways.
Steer clear of Hitachi as most of its product is now white label branded.
Sorry Phil but I've gotta disagree.
My 36" Natura is easily the best set I've had. As mentioned previously I've had Pannys in the past and the Hitachi easily matches them.
Perfect picture including geometery, straight out of the box.
Great TV.

I am taking a snap shot of what is happening to different brands at the moment and not last years models or the year before.
Many things regarding who makes TV's are generally only known in the trade - such as lots of the lower end Toshiba models are being made currently at the Orion factory in South Wales.
Hitachi shut most of thier UK manufacturing base and (along with many other top brands) thier products are made by other companies.
Another example is that most of this years Sony VCR range are being produced by Samsung.
