Question:
I'm thinking about getting a Pure Evoke-1 Portable digital radio this christmas.
Has anyone got one and care to share their experiences???
Cheers in advance,
john
Got one for my mum 3 months ago and was quite impressed.
Had to take it back to argos after 3 weeks because the power button died. The replacement was fine.
Reception seems very good here and the sound quality was/is very good, but the bbc are mucking about with bit rates at the moment so who knows how long that will last:mad:
Its only mono but there is an optional extra speaker for about £30 I think. Realy good speaker though. No distourtion even at full volume.
Only 5 presets but its very easy to use (twist dial, pick station, push dial).
Only thing stopping me getting one is the lack of a timer/wake-up function.
You'll might find they're extremely hard to get hold of!!
Apparently demand is so big at Xmas that almost everywhere has sold out, with most suppliers not getting stock until January:(
I managed to get one from Dixons online yesterday:)
I got one from Argos last week - reserved it online to make sure I would get it. I haven't tried it yet as I'm saving it for christmas. Its a nice solid little unit.
Have either of you got the stereo speaker add on?
Sorry, can't help! (got it as a present for someone else)
I got one last month and rate it highly. I plan to get the additional speaker next month. Excellent sound, nice and compact and brilliant sound quality here. The only real competitor for the money is the analogue Tivoli Model One - but that's not DAB, which is what I was after.
Very hard to get hold of it seems - no hi-fi shops in Reading had any & John Lewis Reading had a 72-person waiting list
But, Argos in Basingstoke had about 20 in stock. Bizarre......
:)
I'm waiting for the Grundig Digiboy battery/mains powered DAB tuner to come out. Reportedly should be out now, for 99 quid.
More details at http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/
Battery would be good- but it's bloody ugly!

Each to their own I guess. I think it looks OK, and fits my needs
i.e. small, portable, battery and mains option.
I think I'll wait until i read a few reviews on it though :)

Indeed - I read that last week. Less worrying with a portable, but not good news for those with a full-size tuner.
Typical BBC really - quantity over quality.
