Cant seem to use my DVD/AMP via digital cable :(
Question:

Got a Tosh 220E DVD player and a Yamaha HTIB45 setup.
Just got a PS2 so thinking i will use that via the optical cable into my amp, then use a digi coax cable from the DVD. theorhetically should be all fine.
works fine with optical cable but absolutly nothing with the digi cable...
any ideas?
could be amp or dvd being the problem i guess , but i know not any way of testing each device.

help?
many thanks
gib

Do you need to select coax input on the yamaha?

Answers:

Prolly an amp setting that you've missed.. have a hunt around the menus and look for an option to assign the digi-coax input to whichever mode you're using - CD/DVD/TV etc..

Answers:

possibly, but i dont remember seeing one, its set as DVD-Auto.
but i will have another look at the manual then..
is it usually the case that you have to physically "tell" the amp that the input is one digi connection over the other?

Answers:

As has been suggested - on my Yamaha AX620 the coaxial digital in is assigned to CD, but the menus on the amp allow you to associate the digital inputs with other "inputs" so I've assigned the coax in to DVD.

Answers:

if i reassign the coax to dvd then i presume that the optical would have to be assigned as CD. if that is the case will it not work with DTS/DD5.1 on the PS2 when i connect that through the optical?
ta for your help guys much appriciated :D

Answers:

Yes it will. The CD label is just that, a label. If it's a digital connection, it will pass through the 5.1 signal.
