Question:
Found an Ex-Display Thopson 44" RP TV which gives a very nice picture for the 1000 Pounds there asking for it, i asked them how long it had been there though and they said bout 8 months!
Going by a quick calculation thats bout 2,300 Hours of Bulb life, is it worth the money or should i just save a bit more for a new set? Cheers, Rizel
(Currys By The Way  )
Currys..?
Nah, don't bother it'll prolly have screen burn from hell..
You can pick up a brand newie for a couple of hundred more..
Thanks Bapapapa, but i'am limted with my choice as i have 600 pounds of Vouchers that i need to use and its either Currys or Dixons
Theres no screen burn which i can see, took my DVD player into with bout 20 DVDs and play through them all over the space of 30 min and played very well, also played a VCD captured from TV but that seemed a bit blocky, but then it was on a 44" screen.
Thanks for your advise anyway. Rizel
I'd check the price of replacement bulbs and the bulb life. My projector has a bulb life of 2000 hours on full power, 5000 on economy, so if the TV has a similar bulb life it could already be practically worn out. Then of course there's the screen burn issue, you say you've checked but bear in mind thats (I presume) in a brightly lit shop not in a dark living room!
Leave alone if I where you, if you do have problems you will be dealing with Curry's FFS!!
Ex-display RPTV's are a bad idea as they tend to have the contrast set to hight that any stable image will burn in insidea a few hours so you may end up with bad burn-in. I have a Panny 47" High-Def WS set and it is wonderful but I made sure I didn't get an ex-disply for that reason. Burn-in isnt convered under warranty! I highly reccomend getting extended warranty too as bulbls/guns can cost a lot to replace esp if you have to replace all when it is slightly older (because the new one will be too bright compared to the others if you replace just one)
I got a 3 year extended on-site warranty for $150 (£100), but I don't know how much Dixons group will charge for theirs!
Well i bought it with the extra warrenty in the end.
It did'nt have any screen burn i can see within the shop, spent a good half hour doing everything i could to check, took my player in played a good selection of DVDs and all looked excellent.
Normal TV viewing was extrely good, they had Sky in store and through the RGB scart image was near perfect.
I have a 7 day money back gurantee, so when it arrives today i'am going to check all over, if anything i don'nt like i'll just return it the next day.
Also bulbs are covered within the first 12 Months of the warrenty so if they go then there covered, after that though i have to cover the costs.
Chances are though that after 2yrs 11 months the screen might fall down the stairs some how just before the warrenty runs out knowing my luck;)
Thanks for all your help. Rizel
