Advice on Sony please
Question:

I'm new to this game, and am thinking of buying a Sony HTSL5 receiver (Empire Direct, £246.32).
I've been checking out the Sony catalogue, and in the techincal specs, it would appear that there is no phono input, and no audio input, though it does have 2 x optical, and 1 x co-ax digital inputs.
Now for the daft question - does this mean I would only be able to connect my DVD player (or other digital device)? Surely I should be able to conect my TV \ Video, otherwise, why would the system support Pro-Logic II?
Any advice, or views would be appreciated.
many thanks,

I'm not familiar with this system, but looking at the specification it appears to only support digital input, which seems extrodinary, but there you go.
So, if the spec is correct, you can't connect TV/Video.
With regard to DLP II. Not all DVDs have 5.1 soundtracks so you can use DPL II to brings these to life.
Personally, I'd steer clear of systems like this.

Thanks for the quick response.
It does seem odd that the specs suggest digital only input - I may have a wander down to my local Sony store to check it out in the flesh. Ideally I would prefer a "full size" receiver, but I'm a bit tied for space and cash.
Thanks once again

Phono input for TV, Sky, Video etc.
Admit the specs are a bit vague on Sony site.
I got one of these from Empire few weeks ago, nice system.
Pity jspone says steer clear, obviously hasn't got the same problems as I have...limited space.

john306,
I didn't say steer clear, I said personally I'd steer clear.
If you are happy with your system then I'm pleased for you.
I'm in the fortunate position of having sufficient space and budget to allow for a bigger and (I believe) better system.
I'm against these sort of packages in principal because they seem to me to be a bit of a 'dead end'. They may fit your requirements on the day you buy them, but they offer little in the way of future proofing (SACD, DVD-A, 6.1...).
If this, and the noise from the fan doesn't bother you, and if it sounds OK to your ears, then that's fine.
