my dad's vhs video recorder has just conked out and i've got no idea what is any good at the cheap end of the market... can anybody point me in the right direction of a cheap video?

It's still worth spending a few quid on a good vhs as you will get better nicam sound and picture quality.
Don't spend over £120 though.
