Kef Eggs or Bose Acoustimas 10
Question:

Having purchased the Sony STR-DB1070 all that time ago on the Currys price cock up, I have finally got round to taking it out of it`s box in order to buy a speaker package for it. Can anyone on these forums please help me on which package to buy?? It is mainly going to be used for movies but also music, say about 70/30 in favour of movies. Size is an issue (room is 15ft sq) which is why I am looking at these two speaker packages. They are priced pretty close as I can get the Kef Eggs for £625 and the Bose Acoustimas 10 for £550. Any observations would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

It's got to be the Kef's from your shortlist.
Bose are bloody awful.
If your budget can stretch, have a look at the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micros, the king of Sub/Sat packages.

Do you mean 5x3ft or 15x15ft..?
Hopefully it's the latter, in which case it's not the smallest room in the world and the ickle sub/sat systems, like the ones you've mentioned *might* have trouble filling the room - but I suppose you could always upgrade the sub..
Avoid Bose anyway..

Answers:

Agreed with both above, avoid the Bose speakers. They make good in-car audio and mini-systems and that is about it at the moment!
The Kef eggs are ok from what I've heard, but as Baps said small sub/sat may be underpowered in a large room

Thanks for your input guys, I must admit I haven`t heard the KEFs yet, but I heard the BOSE and was impressed BUT that was in the BOSE shop, I guess I need to go and listen to the KEFs. :)

Answers:

Yeah, try and get a demo of the KEF Eggs and take some of your own music / DVDs along so you can make a balanced judgement.
Let us know how you got on.

I've got the Kefs and I'm really impressed with them , even woth music. I used to have a full size speaker package (Tannoys all round) and it was space constraints after a move that made me change, and I have to say that the difference in quality isn't terribly noticeable. I give them a big  . I have listened to Bose in the shops and they sound fine but not brilliant.

I also have the Kef,s and think they sound great, also I have had Demo,s of Bose and I think the crititism is unfair

another vote for the Kef Eggs !
Cracking little speakers matched up the Sony 940 and a pioneer DVD player... amp and dvd player could do with a major upgrade I think
but we'll wat and see eh
