DVD Recorders in the pipeline?
Question:

Seriously thinking about buying a DVD recorder, but the Philips is too big and ugly and won't play RCE discs, and the Panasonic uses DVD-RAM and it's difficult to find it multi region.
Also I got unused component inputs on my plasma so it would be nice to have a prog-scan player, so I was wondering of anyone had heard of any other DVD Recorders in the pipeline, ideally with component/prog scan out, but at the very least a reasonable size with a reliable multi-region mod...
..and no, I don't want several DVD players under the TV. (already got 2)

Philips have just released the 1000 Mk2 model and it outputs Pro Scan Pal/NtSC via a VGA socket
Judging by your comments about the Philips being big and ugly, I think it is rather big, but the spec of this little beasty is just amazing
sadly it does not have component out, but the P/scan via VGA more than makes up for it
more good news is the fact that you can daisy chain your Sky box thru it via RGB input
the picture quality is supposed to be jaw dropping
your point about RCE is valid, but there are so few RCE discs about, that I could live without it
plus a quick 15 minutes with smartripper would sort that
;) ;)

I've bought the Philips 880 thus far and am happy with it. Also recently picked up a Sony 900 which works fine with RCE discs. Never had any intention of using the 880 as a primary DVD player as it's only there to record with, not play back for me.

Andy,
Apparently the DVR7000 replacement (pioneer) is going to offer Prog scan (which I agree, is really a waste on the older 7000 - component but not prog). Will also be a lot slimmer then the current model (and theres going to be 2 other models, one with HD, and a cheapo sub £500 model).
Also, for anyone whom might not know this, the panasonic DMRE30 is discontinued from this month, replacement not due till spring.....
