Does anybody know about a crack or a firmware update so I can play CDR-s in my Sony CDP-S 335 player? I´ve heard that these players play some types of CD-R´s, does anybody know what types these are?

Sorry no firmware update will help it, its due to the drives laser. Some brands (think vertabrans, however you spell it!) work fine though.
OK thanks, I kinda suspected that. But another question, is there a possibility to buy a different laser unit from a Sony parts dealer and change the laser unit? Or would that be too expensive or much trouble??

I doubt it, and if you could, it would probably be very expensive. My Sony 725 won't play cd-r's, but it will play cd-rw just fine. So that might be an option you could look at.

Nope, sorry, you`re looking at a new machine if its that much of an issue and you cannot find any compatible discs:(
