Question:
A week or two ago I saw the new Samsung 43" plasma in my local Curry's. Nice looking bit of kit I thought but after standing in front of it for a few minutes I noticed the image was not the best quality in terms of definition, brightness or contrast. There was also a very noticeable pixel structure.
Today I had the pleasure of seeing a Pioneer PDP-433HDE running in my local HC shop (Flicks - Bangor). OMG what a picture! I'm staggered to think what the 50" is like. Shop guy said it was just as good but bigger of course :) . My concept of what plasma TV is capable of has been irrevocably altered.
I've heard some people say the new Panasonic 43" has a better picture than the Pioneer. If it really is noticeably better then I struggle to think of words to describe what that would actually look like! Even up close, the Pioneer did not have any noticeable pixel borders. Truly awesome. I SOO want one.
One question. I see lots of references to a 433MXE and a 433HDE. What's the difference?
Have a look at www.avforums.com .They have a dedicated forum for plasma;allied to the search you should find all you need to know.
My local dealer has the Panasonic PWD4 connected to an Arcam DV27 - picture is absolutely stunning, best I've seen from plasma.

MXE is just a screen with S-vid, composite, and component in.
HDE is the "consumer" model, with media box (3 scarts, 2 rgb, composite, s-vid, component, pc).
I`ve been telling forum members for ages the Pioneers are brill screens, I`ve owned a pana 42" PW4 and my 43"HDE blows it away (hence why the pioneers have won "plasma of the year" awards in most mags :)
HTH
Oh yeah, and MXEs only come in black on the 43", HDEs only come in silver
Justin: Thanks for the details. The silver HDE is as you say a "brill screen".
Can anyone tell me if this screen has discrete codes for power and the like for a Pronto?

Think I`ve seen some .cff on remote central for the older models, which should be fine.
If any-one is interested
I have a brand new Unicol Wall mount for the 43" Pioneer model and am open to offers as it is surplus to my needs
