Question:
Been enlisted to get them as a Xmas gift for someone, they've got a Pioneer DV-343 if I remember right, anyone point me in the direction of a current good deal?
:)
EDIT: Or would it be cheaper finding the amp and then speakers individually?
Depends on what you term cheap? Do you want separates, ability to upgrade? Or would the VS-10 by Yamaha as posted on the Bargin forums do the job - £199.97 from Dixons on-line. DTS/DD 5.1 with sub, 5 speakers & amplification (integrated into sub).
Regards to cheap, dunno how much I'm expected to put into this yet so we'll have to see, and since it's not for me I'm not bothered about ability to upgrade, etc :norty:
Ta for the help mate, looking into that one now :)
No probs - & if it's of any help I've just had one to set up in spare room & I'm chuffed. Decent bit of kit for what was originally around the £400 mark & just right for what I needed. Dixons were ace with the whole process & it arrived in a few days!
Ta mate, looks like that's the one I'll be going for (tempted to get one for myself as well now as my old setup is falling to pieces :) )
D'oh! Out Of Stock at Dixons online :(
Don't forget the VS-10 only has an optical input. Worth checking your DVD player to make sure it has that. Some Pioneer DVD players only have a coaxial output (DV-350 for example). You will also need to get an optical cable as Yamaha don't supply one of these with the VS-10
All academic now innit as they're out of stock ;)

What about the Phillips MX980 for 30 notes more - couldn't comment on the performance though. Just a thought...
ive gotta fully boxed Sony strde 475 amp which does dts/dd5.1, all you need is some speakers to go with them, as you only live over in dumbarton, i can deliver(or you collect) and let you have it for £110 or some dvds!
anyhoo, its over in the gen classifieds if youre interested!
matt - thanks again gonna look into it....
ajw000 - gonna have a look into that one as well mate, could well be interested :)
Just seen in the bargain forums the Yammy TSS1 @ £99!!!
Have seen a review somewhere & for a small room set-up I don't think you could go far wrong @ this price...
Went with the Philips MX980 in the end, but thanks again :)
And thanks to everyone else that replied on this thread, help was greatly appreciated!! :)
Closing as requested :)
