Question:
Can anyone shed any light on this (http://www.dtsonline.com/proaudio/112202.shtml) info ? Is it US only ? Is it worth implementing on a system with so many video and audio glitches that I can barely watch at all ?
Mike.
USA only, And forget DTS with UK DTT, DTT in UK struggles with just 30 channels let alone broadcasting DTS audio streams as well.
So how does DTT in the US differ?
Digital surround was not written into the spec of UK digital terrestrial (I believe it was in the Australian spec (DD)). That is the only reason it has not been utilised. Otherwise the scope for digital terrestrial surround would be no different to that of any other country. At the time of writing the spec, we in the UK were still resistant to anything more than 'plug in, switch on' solutions. It would not have been seen as a priority to provide any more than nicam stereo type quality as surround had not caught on here as it has elsewhere, namely the US and Japan. We are simply the victims of our haste to adopt the standard (for politcal reasons) and our own slowness to then embrace new standards!
