Question:
I'm currently looking at getting a plasma screen and to go with it updating my DVD player. I'm looking for one with a component out and not found too many so far. None of the major brands (Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer) seem to do them. The only ones I've found so far are Toshiba. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm also looking for MP3 playback, CD-R, DVD-R etc. compatibility.
Whats wrong with the Tosh ones youv'e looked at ?
Nothing, just suprised the big name players don't do component out and also looking for other manufacturers and recommendations from owners.
My father got the Mico from Sainburys - not a bad deck. Also, I've seen the latest slimline Mustek has component out as well - £70 as well from our QVC outlet!
Ahh yes, it has component, out, but is it progressive?
I thought many players can have component, but if its progressive or not is another matter.
Just been reading a rather long thread over at the AVForums about a Phillips 963 player which has recently been released which does PAL progressive scan. At the moment it seems they're only available through retailers in Holland but are due to hit the UK pretty soon. These guys seem pretty excited about it and it's reasonably priced - http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44038

Where did prog scan come from ?
I'm looking for one with a component out
The Pioneer 656A has component out. I was thinking of matching one with the 42" LG plasma that richersounds were selling.

Pointless buying a DVD player with component out, UNLESS it offers progressive scan. if not, stick with RGB as better pic.
Theres a few machines around £300ish:
Marantz DV4300
Harman kardon DVD25
these are the only ones hackable currently for PAL prog at a half decent price....

Cheers for that, I will keep a look-out on the AV-forums for something similar.
However, I may be waiting quite a while, as I am unwilling (and unable ) to spend more than £1500 on a 42" plasma.:(

Thanks Justin, I'll do a bit of research on these 2 players.
You could try the Kiss Technology DP450DVD which Scan (http://www.scan.co.uk) sell. It has component out and progressive scan plus can play MP3, MPEG4 & DivX v4+!
View the specs here (http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=46005).
