Marantz 6300 and 7300 a/v amps
Question:

Anyone bought one of these which have superceded the 5200, 6200 and 7200 models? Was looking at getting a 6200 yesterday and my local hi-fi dealer (a proper one, not something like Dixons) mentioned they been superceded......
Don't really need the 7.1 from the 7300, but would it be worth paying the extra £60(?) for future proffing purposes although there aren't any dvds yet (or are there) that take advantage of this......

Answers:

The 7.1 single is just a copy of the 6.1 signal sent to another speaker.
The Marantz won't be able to decode any theoretical 7.1 format as they don't exist yet.

TBH there was never a great deal of difference between the Sr5200 and SR6200, for the difference in price.
The newer models have changed mainly in terms of processing, and power. Any reason why you were looking at the 6200 anyway over a 5200? I ask only as you say you don`t need 7.1, so why pay for the little extra power / LCR of the 6200?
The newer Sr4300 is really a stripped down Sr5200 (if that makes sense), now 6.1 compared to the old 4200, so it might even be worth looking at that and saving a few squid?
Or just pick up a bargin priced SR7200 somewhere, as they were all discontinued back in August.
hope that helps.
