Question:
I have a very strange problem with my (ageing) DVD player. It plays DVDs fine - which is, of course, not a problem. However, when playing CDs, they regularly skip (about 50% of tracks) and quite often (25%+) stop playing all together, or even eject the CD.
The player I have is a Pioneer DVD717 (or maybe a 707 - I honestly can't remember off the top of my head, although I think it's a 717), but it was one of the early ones that came out in gold.
I know it's old (by DVD standards), but 3.5 years should not be a DVD player's life time (IMO).
It has a dual laser pickup (to supposedly play CDs better!) so my guess is that it's the CD laser or CD-specific pickup system, rather than anything common to playing both CDs and DVDs. Someone suggested belt slippage, but not sure how to check this. I have cleaned with a lens cleaner (albeit not a wet one - just a dry brush disc cleaner) to no avail.
Does anyone out there have any idea? Sorry for the long, rambling message, but I'm rapidly running out of ideas.
Thanks
Sounds like the laser is dying..
Chucking it away and buying a new one is the only economical solution..
Poo. Looks like I'll be getting myself a nice cheap Marantz from Richer Sounds then :(
