Question:
I like to watch my movies loud. I have a Yammy620 with Mission 641i front speakers, but I am getting wifey grief about size. Would the eggs + the amp give room shaking performance?

I use the Kef KHT2005 speaker/subwoofer package and a Denon 3802 in a room measuring approximately 16' x 12' and find the sound levels more than satisfactory. However, considering the cost involved, I would seriously suggest you listen to same before purchasing a set.
Mine are plenty loud enough - when my amp (Sony STR-VA555ES) is on a third volume it certainly shakes my room - much to the annoyance of her indoors!
Andy where did yopu get the amp and how much?

I got it from av4u.co.uk for £759.99 delivered. They were one of the few retailers who had it and the only one that had it available in champagne rather than black. I'm really pleased with the amp:)
Cheers for that.
I have the sony 940 which is excellent for movies but leaves a bit to be desired on stereo, is yours good on stereo as i am tempted.
I have only palyed SACD on it but the sound on that was absoloutely fantastic. It is far better than my old sony 925 when playing music channels from Sky as the source but I've got a seperates system to listen to music. I'll chuck on a CD tonight to give you a quick verdict - my DVD player is a Pioneer 656A which is supposed to be pretty musical (isn't that what you've got as well?)
Dtsrules - tried out the new Robbie Williams CD tonight and was surprised at how musical it was with CD's. I also put on a Frankie goes to Hollwood CD to compare to the SACD by the same band I have. I think the KEF eggs are probably the weakest link as far as music goes but the sound quality was still as good as my seperates. I give the 656A and STR-VA555ES the big  with music.
I shall have to audition them at a local dealer, but do they really mind if you don't buy it inthe end?

 I have b&w 602's as my front speakers so i should be ok.
Goinna have to have a look around now.
I've got B&W 603s as my front speakers and I'm looking for a more musical amp, so I'll put the Sony on my "to demo" list. :dork:
Of course, depends on how much faith you have in a Robbie Williams fan. ;)
Another thought Andy - have you found any sign of hiss coming from your rear speakers? I've read in a few reviews that hiss was noticeable in some surround modes.
No noticeable hiss in any of the surround modes but I tend to stay with the standard ones - DD, DTS, Pro-logic II etc. If you can find any more info about which modes I can give them a go but do you use any of the other sound modes???
P.S. I think Robbie Williams is a **** but some of his music is OK - I wouldn't put his latest album on that list yet!
According to http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/frame.html?http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/Amplifiers/Sony/SonySTR-VA555ES.php it's mostly in the various DSP modes, and to a lesser extent with analog DPL2 and Neo 6.
Checked this out but there wasn't anything noticeable. If I put my ear right up to the speaker when the was a quiet scene using DPLII then there was a slight hiss at high volumes, but unless you actually sat with th speakers strapped to your ears like headphones then I doubt you'd notice in normal use:nuts:
