Question:
Just had the Aiwa XP-EM60 delivered from Dixons for my boy's Xmas pressie, set it up to check it and I'm astonished by the quality - yes quality - of sound this thing's chucking out..
For £120 it's fantastic VFM..
You mean you bought it without demoing it first? tut tut tut ;)
Hehe.. Not me who was going to have to listen to the thing..
Mind you, I might go and order another one for my bedroom.. :D
hmm I am not convinced, you on drugs m8 :D
aiwa do make tidy little hi-fi and are well worth the money.:D

I'm still stunned by the sound - nice and detailed with a weighty bass as well..
mods - please move to the bargain forum..
step sideways mate.............;) :)
If like most Aiwa's it's got a subwoofer out I'd recommend one on those little Aiwa subs from Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.sv01.net/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=205002). Turned down low it just adds that missing edge...
I have to agree , these cheap aiwa's sound excellent for the money (as long as you don't get the 5w/channel ones).
I prefer the sound from my £60 Aiwa micro system (it was half price) to that of my Sony separates midi system.
You will never convince some hifi snobs though !!

Trust me, this little baby doesn't need one..
You got a link Baps?, i can only find the:
XREM XXX
MICRO HI-FI SYSTEM
models.
This one sounds good for a 2nd system as i'm having probs with me current set-up.
EDIT: Are you sure that's the model number?, i can't even find it on the Aiwa website. Nearest i got was a turntable, your boy a budding DJ??
Robby - it is the 'XREM60KS' at www.dixons.co.uk
Think there's a code knocking around the bargain forum as well which'll save you a tenner.. missed that when I ordered..
Just noticed it's a five star winner from WHF last month..
Tempted by one these myself, does it have an aux input?
Cheers Baps, that was one of the ones i looked at as well  :D
It looks tiny, i know it's a pressie for your boy but did you happen to throw any MP3's at it Baps??
I really quite like that, i've always thought my surround set-up wasn't the best for music listening. Always thought it sounds quite harsh, the only benefit being the bass channels and sometimes various effects that come from the rears.
If anyone is thinking about getting one of these, theres a guy on the classifieds selling £100 of dixons vouchers for £85:
http://Here.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135427
Keith - no idea, it's all boxed up now so I can't check..
Robby - Don't think it's MP3 compatible..
btw - it is pretty small, but it's surprisingly deep (front to back)..
I actually saw the model under and over this one (the 50 and 70) today and they were both quite neat.
Def on my 'to buy...' list. Just gotta get Chrimbo over with

Is it ok for CDR's?
All CD players will play CDRs, it's only DVD players that can have a problem due the laser calibration.
Just had a listen to this and compared it with the Teac MCD78. I preferred the sound of the Teac but it did cost £30 more.

If that was in a shop then be aware it will sound totally different in a home environment.
You can often turn on all the bass enhancements on in a shop and it sounds good. Try this in your home and it will sound a bass heavy mess :D
A lot of luck is involved when buying systems from shops (hence the listening rooms in top-end stores).
Beddie , not all CD players are OK with CDRs. Those that mention they play them read them far better than some of those that don't quote that they are CDR compatible. Many now quote CDR/CDRW compatible - these are worth getting for more reliable reading of CDRs.
My 2 year old Aiwa reads CDR , but not perfectly. It struggles when you skip tracks with some CDRs (and it won't read CDRWs at all).My Sony personal CD and Aiwa portable are the same (none of them quote CDR/CDRW compatible on packaging or manuals).
Yeh, I know about testing in different environments, the teac sounded better in curry's anyway :D
Just confused about the teac model now, it was mcd78, looks the same as the 100 reference series but is it? Its too cheap to be the CRH100 but looks identical

Bought one of these for the bedroom a few weeks back, and Baps is right - for the money you can't lose. It's a great little piece of kit.
I bought a Teac MC-D78 2 months ago. It is a great little system for the bedroom, even the speakers are quite good for their size. It struggles at higher volumes but I mainly use it as a glorified clock radio so it suits its purpose well.
I don't know if it is the same as the reference series, I just assumed it was a Currys exclusive model. Good though. And it plays CDRs :D
I'm stuck between the MCD78 and Reference CRH100 now :brickwall
Does the mcd78/100 have aux inputs? the specs I've found on the web doesn't mention it anywhere.
The MC-D78 has lots of inputs: aux, tape, and minidisc. Analogue outputs for tape and MD, and optical digital output.
I should get a job in Currys! On second thoughts, I know too much about the product :D
Thanks for that :)
I can get the mcd78 for around £160 with speakers or the crh100 for the same without speakers.... they look identical and power output is the same (I think)... ummm..... :|
UPDATE: Just bought the MCD78 for £139.99 at Dixons. They price matched Currys display model price :D
I got the Aiwa for xmas and love it but now need another system for my office.
May get the Teac to compare and have both but really could do with spending under £100 this time and to be honest i cannot play it too loud at work anyway. Needs a good radio for Radio 5 footy at the w/ends though.
Any decent cheapos out there?
What about getting portable jobby (cd or mini-disc) and some speakers????
Before anyone asks my PC does not ahve a sound card and if I buy one plus speakers I am unlikely to stay with the same PC and take the thing out when I move to a new PC that will probably ahve a sound card anyway.
:suspect:
oops!
Has Baps been banned or what :p
