Playstation 2 and DTS - Sorted!!
Question:

I have my PS2 linked to my DTS decoder. However, when I choose a DTS track, the sound plays fine, but, the "dts" logo on the L.E.D. display does not come on, The DD logo and the PCM are both on.
When I use my Pioneer DV-10 portable, which has DTS, with the same Optical in Port to the decoder, the DTS light does indeed come on.
So, Does the PS2 output in DTS? or Does it convert it to Dolby Digital or PCM for DTS playback?
The Decoder/AMP performs as it should using my other 2 players.
Any Suggestions will be apreciated.

Answers:

you mean for DVDs or games?
I play PS2 DTS games through my digital receiver, and these are recognised as DTS, no problems..
Examples of games which have DTS tracks:
GTA3 - Vice City
SSX - Tricky
If the Game only has a DD5.1 track, you cannot output it as DTS (obviously)...
Are you sure you have selected the DTS track in the Game/DVD?
You typically need to select this from the options screen, as sound will always default to Stereo (given that most people just have their PS2s attached to a TV).
If you have not selected this (which sounds like the likely scenario), you are getting a stereo channel, over your digital connection, which would explain why you're seeing DD & PCM, but not DTS.
Hope this helps!

I am experiencing a different PS2 / DTS problem with GTA : VC. If I switch to the DTS option then the amp's multichannel light comes on and it say [DTS 2:2] on the display but I get no sound:confused:

Krusty, It was a Movie - Pitch Black, Region 1. I did select the correct audio, as it played the dts intro, and did the same with my dts enabled player, and the dts logo came on. with that one, not the PS2.
I only have the optical connection from the PS2 to the amp, I use scart to get picture and sound to the TV, could that affect the audio out sent to the AMP?
I dont have any DTS enabled games yet (although GTA:VC will be purchesed by xmas).

Have you enabled the DTS output option in the PS2's setup menus..?

Answers:

I didnt see a DTS specific option, just the Digital Optical bit.
How do you find the DTS option? I dont have the DVD player update that comes with the remote control add-on, its just a box standard PS2, with Region X to play all my disks.

There is no DTS output option on the PS2's setup menu:confused:

I found it!!!!
The Extra settings are accessed via the onscreen menu while in the DVD mode, then it gives the options for activating "DTS" and "Dolby Digital" and a few other options.
Now it all plays great, to the AMP.
