Question:
Looking for a dvd player for a 6 year old... sub £100 would be nice.. Any help would be appreciated..
Those Ghibli players are nice but far too expensive..
Argos sell the Alba DVD108 for £69.99 - have a look at this (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/ols_prod_detl.d2w/report?prrfnbr=5332247&prmenbr=6970&type=big&thisMode=ols&cgrfnbr=379510)
Cyberhome 402 - £89.99 - more info here
RicherSounds do a range of budget players - have a look at this (http://www.richersounds.sv01.net/index.php?f=itemlist.php&c=1201)
Tesco do a few under £100 - the Bush DVD2020 - £79.95 (http://www.tesco.com/electrical/Browse.asp?type=Item&typeid=7218586) , the Bush DVD2023 - £89.95 (http://www.tesco.com/electrical/Browse.asp?type=Item&typeid=7189382) , the ORION DVD3003 - £95 (http://www.tesco.com/electrical/Browse.asp?type=Item&typeid=6588212) and the Samsung DVDS224 - £99.90 (http://www.tesco.com/electrical/Browse.asp?type=Item&typeid=7189381)
Tesco also sell Dansai players, but not online so it might be worth visiting a Tesco store
The Pioneer DV-350 is an excellent player but at £117 (delivered) it may be more than you want to pay - if you do have a look at this thread (http://217.33.154.203/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132340)

the last what hifi rated 5 sub-100 players (the 100 quid one came out tops, and then you may as well go up to tosh 220e (about 130 at richer is it???).
its a false economy i think if for the price of a couple of dvds you get a player that within 6 months you realise isnt good enough for you and you have to upgrade.
sorry i dont have the mag to hand for the names etc... but you should be able to find it around.

Bear in mind this is a player for a 6 year old and probably not the main house player

There's a mini-review of the Alba DVD108 here: http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/electronics/dvd_players/alba_dvd_103/_review/390533/ - sounds like it is multiregion although the reviewer had only checked R1 and R2
According to http://www.dvd365.net/?hacks/alba.htm the Alba 108 is multiregion out of the box
According to http://www.dvd365.net/?hacks/c-players.htm the Cyberhome 402 is not multiregion out of the box but there is a simple hack to make it multiregion (the instructions are on the same URL).
I'm not sure which is the better player though - probably best to do a search on google.co.uk and compare the specs.
Thanks mate, much appreciated!
There is no reason to choose the Cyberhome over the Alba (if its more expensive). Cyberhome have a poor reputation for build quality.
The main thing when buying one of these cheapies is that the one you buy plays the formats you need it to (i.e VCD,SVCD,MP3, DVDr )and is easily made multiregion. But the main point is to buy it from somewhere that you can return the player to easily because build quality is patchy on all the budget brands (you could get a good one , or you could be unlucky and get a bad one).
My advice would be to buy one from Argos or your local supermarket, not online..
:)
WHSmiths are doing the Cyberhome 402 for £79.99. May be worth a try plus there are 10% off nights for clubcard holders. Just check out their website.
Dean.
I have found the Pioneer DV-340 for £99.99 delivered online or £89.99 ex-demo, is this a better player than the Tosh?
craig... are those prices for multiregion models?
If it isn't than be aware that to make the Pioneer multiregion will cost you about £40 (so its cheaper to buy one already modified if you need multiregion).
There is no hack for the Pioneer players (or free firmware downloads) !!!
