THe trouble is that too many people think the player they own is the best even though there might be better ones at the same price.
Not many people put several similar priced players side by side to compare performance.
i remember people praising the Alba 104 highly. Only to admit a few weeks later that is is rubbish (when they had returned it for a refund after notcing the pixellated picture and the inability to play RCE titles).
Its particularly worse with budget brands because patchy build quality means that one batch of players can perform better than the next batch.
Can you say that the Pioneer 350 is better than the similar priced Toshiba 220E.
I don't think there is anyone on here who has done a side-by-side comparison. There lies the problem of threads that are trying to give definate best buys ...!!
Yourself and 8-] have just quoted website specs too. Neither of you mention that it can play SVCD, or that you have checked the ability to play the media/format that you quoted.

If you look at this thread (http://217.33.154.203/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132340) which I quote often, I have listed all the media types that I have used on the DV-454:
CD
CDR
CDRW
DVD
DVDR
MP3
VCD
SVCD
I have also listed these in a few other threads.
People have said that the Toshiba is not as forgiving on different media types as the Pioneer. Apart from that they are both good players.
I have done a side by side comparison of the Tosh 220 and the Sony 700, and despite what people say, the Sony won the picture quality hands down, sound - not a clue, but picture the Sony was the clear winner.
However it has to be said hats off to Tosh who have put a cracking disk drive into the 220, with no layer change!
how does the sammy 105 hold up these days?
