Question:
Hi I'm looking to upgrade my current LG3350E dvd player to home cinema sound. I am very happy with my player but would like to add the extra surround sound.
now I can either buy a complete home cinema kit like the Sony S500 or I can get a Yamaha HTIB-45, and keep my old dvd player.
My only problem is that I have a JVC 28WFRIEK which does not like NTSC as the picture shudders on all region 1 discs, this is why I have the LG as a previous Pioneer caused me problems.
Will the Sony cause me the same problem or is there another system out there that I can buy, I have about £500 to spend, can anybody help me and recomend me either a complete system or an amp + speakers for this money.
thanks

ps. the wife :notworthy would like something in silver
If your TV is currently having probs with NTSC then forget the Sony as it doesn't output RGB or even have SCART sockets for that matter..
I'd go with the Yammy HTib45 for £320 leaving you with a nice bit of wedge to get a new DVD player that'll output PAL 60 - I think the Pioneers do, but you'd have to check..
I wonder if there's a fault with your TV. Mine is a different JVC model but from the same family and I have never had a problem with NTSC and I'm currently on my third Pioneer DVD player.

Pioneers do output NTSC as both NTSC and PAL60
May I recommend :) the excellent Pioneer DV-454. £128 delivered (multiregion)
It plays pretty much anything (the Pioneers are very good at that - same with the 350)
DV-454 includes all the new elements featured in the brand new DV-350 and now includes both coaxial and optical digital outputs.
So depending on whether you want that extra functionality or not you can choose between them.
Best prices currently seem to be:
£128 delivered for DV-454 - have a look at this thread (http://217.33.154.203/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=114298)
£117 delivered for DV-350 - have a look at this thread (http://217.33.154.203/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132340)
Cheers guys, I think I'm going to stick with the Yammy.
The problem I had with the picture flickering I think was to do with the actual pioneer player (525) and not my JVC tv as it done this on my bedroom tv as well.
I'll check out the Pioneer dv-454, may have to visit the local Bennetts and see if the Pioneer works with the JVC (they sell multiregion players there).
Thanks

Try to look for Yamaha: RXV630 amp + NSP320 5.1 speakers. I think you should be able to get them for little above £500
Alternative & bit cheaper set to be considered is RXV430 or 530 + NSP220 - difference in speakers from NSP320 is 4 satellites instead of 2 bigger fronts + 2 smaller rears.
Amp is black or titanium, speakers are black or silver grey - latter colour options should satisfy your wife. :notworthy
Sorry for not indicating any particular info sources but would be not valid as I base resarch on my local www in Poland.
