DVD-R or DVD+R writer???
Question:

Which one should I go for? The DVD+R discs seem to be a lot more expensive.

Answers:

There is a new Sony DVD writer out that can write both DVD-R & DVD+R.

It has mixed comments from users at vcdhelp.com though

Answers:

DVD-R. Work on the majority of players and mega cheap disks and cheaper players.

any DVD-R discs and writer you can recommend?

I have a pioneer A03 which has now been replaced by the A04. I must have burnt about 40 disks, all worked on the PC about 5 won't work on my tosh player. I use a mixture of unbranded and Apple disks with writing speed at 1x.

Answers:

Does the writing speed affect the discs? I understand the A04 has 2X write speed, so is it better to use 1X speed instead?
Thanks a lot for your response. Cheers.

Answers:

sorry for lateness in reply, had bad case of the sniffles.
ASAIK use x1 for cheapie disks and x2 for branded. I also leave the PC alone while burning, not even solitaire! Burning x1 is a slow process, but it is generally worth it to prevent coasters.

Answers:

I have the A04 and use cheapy 2x discs such as Bulkpaq and Choice. I have never had a bad disc that has not been my own fault. They have all played on my LG 3350 without issue. I did have some FWS discs that wouldn't play at the outer edge (pixellation and breaking up) but these were replaced by Pete at blankdiscshop.co.uk without question. I continue to use my PC as normal when writing as well. It not high spec, 700 Mhz 256 Mb ram 30 Gb IDE drive IBM Netvista.

Answers:

I use the Pioneer A04 with White Label media at 2x. All discs play fine on my pioneer 454. Burnt over 200 discs with this drive now
