Question:
I've been in China for the last few months and have bought a very good stereo amp. I am going to be shipping this home next month when I move back to the UK. I already have a Pioneer 5.1THX (909 I think?) receiver at home and I would like to use the Pioneer for movies, and the new amp from China for music. What I need to know, is how do I connect them up?
Would it go something like:
DVD-Pioneer using Optical/Coax
DVD-Pioneer using Phonos (for music)
Pioneer Pre-outs to Stereo Amp Source 1 using Phonos
Speakers connected to the Stereo amp
How would I set up the volume levels so that the main speakers driven by the stereo amp are balanced with the others without having to do this everytime I change from music to movies?
Thanks in advance
You have 2 options, one which you stated.
--- option 1---
"DVD-Pioneer using Optical/Coax
DVD-Pioneer using Phonos (for music) *** only if the DVD players DAC is better than the pioneers (to your ears)***
Pioneer Pre-outs to Stereo Amp Source 1 using Phonos
Speakers connected to the Stereo amp"
This way you'll set the relative volume on the 2ch HiFi amp ( roughly 50% depending on wattage etc) - balance it with the other 3 speakers.
Once done you dont touch it - the actual volume controll is all done with the Pioneers preamp section.
-- option 2----
DVD-Pioneer using Optical/Coax
DVD-Stereo amp using Phonos (for music)
Pioneer Pre-outs to Stereo Amp Source 1 using Phonos
Speakers connected to the Stereo amp
This way you have to do option 1 for movies but for music you can switch off the pioneer HC amp and adjust the volume down on the stereo amp.
It means theres less signal loss/noise because your not routing the audio through the pioneer BUT you will have to re-adjust the volume level onthe stereo amp every time you switch between the systems.
Cheers Rob, I'll try that out when I get back to England. If I go for option 1, will I be using the Pioneer or the Korsan (Chinese Amp) DAC?
