Question:
Any techies out there help with this?
My sisters Pioneer has recently devloped a problem in that it will only play VCD's. When she trys to play DVD's the screen goes dark blue and no sound or picture. Same for either R1 or R2
Also in the top right of the screen there is a funny graphic like an open bracket.
Any clues?, or should I take it to the local repair shop
Any help appreciated
This Pioneer has dual lasers, one for vcd and the other for DVD's. The DVD laser could have failed or become missaligned, although this is unlikely given you can play VCD's ok. Maybe its just dirty in which case you could try as a last resort one of those cd lens cleaners.

Cheers.
I'll head down to Aldi's to get the cleaner mentioned in the thread.
Well went and got one from Aldi's.
Worked a treat on my player (Pioneer 525) sorted out some audio problems.
However , refused to load on my sister's , so it looks like its time to take the top of the machine off and have a go with some cleaning fluid.
Cheers for the info anyway.
