DVD NTSC playback.... help!!!
Question:

Can anyone give me an idea what the problem is with this?
I have a Philips 32" Widesceen TV and had a modded DVD player that played just fine and dandy, thank you very much.
A few months ago I replaced my DVD player witha Sony multi-region DVD player which plays fine on all TVs - except my Philips 32" Widescreen TV.
It plays films from other regions in plain old black and white.
Any idea what the problem is?

what connections are you using and signal type is the player set to?

I'm using a S-Video to SCART cable - but the same happens when I use a SCART to SCART.
Not sure how to set the signal type - what do I need to do?
Thanks for your help!

Answers:

when you use scart to scart, try changing the player to output RGB, and make its connected the the TV RGB Scart socket (usually scart 1).
Let me know how it goes :)

And my last question for you!
How do I set my player to output RGB?
Thanks again!!!

Answers:

Try switching the dvd player to Auto or NTSC setting. I don't know the Sony menu layout but select picture menu .

Answers:

Some Sonys (e.g. the 735) only output NTSC as pure NTSC, and if your TV doesn't accept pure NTSC then it will display the image in black and white.
Many other players will output NTSC as PAL60 which pretty much all modern TVs will play - hence you may not have known the problem before you got the Sony.

You might be able to get around the problem using an RGB output (I'm not sure though).
Post a new thread (or rename this one) to say that you have a Sony 735 and a TV that doesn't accept pure NTSC, and ask for advice.
If you can find out the model/specs of the TV and DVD player (for certain) that would help in the diagnosis/advice as well.
Hope this helps

8-] is correct, if you set the Sony to RGB from the set up menu under EURO AV and plug your scart cable into AV1 on the Philips your R1's wil play in colour assuming your scart cable is RGB enabled(might not have all the pins connected).
I have a Philips 32" and Sony Player and this was the only way to get NTSC discs to play in colour, great picture though.
Hope this helps.
