Question:
Ok For a long time Iv been thinking about getting a Phillips PW6006 32 " widescreen tv.
Now Iv also been told about the Sharp 32JW73H set available for a similar price.
The Sharp set is not a flatscreen but its flatter than the Philips.
But the menu for the sharp is more clunky to use.
The Sharp set has 3 scarts compared to 2 on th Philips. Its the extra scart socket such a big deal ?
The other thing is Iv not heard great things about sharp sets for reliability so does anyone have and experience with sharp widescreens ?
I also welcome any other suggestions for similar sets for around £500 - £550.
Thanks for any advice given.
;)
Anyone ?

Best thing is to look at the www.avforums.com before buying. Look through the posts on the TV forums. You will now notice that everybody has a horror story about every make or model of set that is known to man. At this point you have a number of options.
1. Take note of the model number getting the least amount of flack from the forum experts
2. Disregard all advice and plump for the model getting the greatest slagging off in the hope that by a curious reversal of fortune the set you get will be perfect. You can then go onto the above forum and confound everyone by saying your set is perfect.
3. Make a list of features you want ie 100Hz, scarts etc. Visit www.unbeatable.co.uk , www.empiredirect.co.uk , www.rgbdirect.co.uk , www.robertsons-online.co.uk. Select short list of tele's that meet your requirement and you like the look of. Visit manufacturers sites to check on details and specifcations and then most importantly visit you local independant tv suppliers and physically look at the sets on your short list. Play around with them ask the shop to hook up a DVD player and play one of your films. If they refuse take your trade else where.
Once you have done all this and made a choice then you need to decide where to buy from .The internet (cheaper), highstreet outlet (not as cheap as internet) , local independant supplier (usually most expensive although not always). Remember aftercare is important with tv sets due to the faults that can develop during transportation and manhandling by a lone delivery driver of 36" widescreen tv.
In the end only your impressions of the set count.

Yes. I think its the same one I was looking at.
My brother has just bought a JVC AV28R25S for £550 from John Lewis, Oxford Street, London. 28", 3 SCARTS (1 RGB +2 S-Video) decent sound and great picture when seen on demo, includes stand and is IMHO very good looking set. Check www.jvc.co.uk for details. He chose it in preference to the £500 Panasonic 28" PL1 they also sell which has been getting good reviews.
The 32" JVC came third in "What Video" group test after a couple of much more expensive sets so fingers crossed its a good'un.
JL has a 5 year parts and labour guarantee, free delivery and on the sets we looked at they were within £30 of the internet retailers offering standard 12 month manufacturers guarantees.
(£16 more than empire direct, unbeatable inc. del RGB direct were much cheaper £508.99 inc.del but a 5 year guarantee is £119.00!).
You pays your money, you takes your choice. It arrives on Friday and I'll post back when I've been to see it but don't hold your breath.
