Question:
I'm struggling to set up the subwoofer as it's either too quiet too 'boomy' . I know the sounds influenced by the amp to a certain degree (I've got the SOny STR-VA555ES) but if someone could tell me the position of their dials on the sub (crossover etc.) then it might point me in the right direction and give me a base setting which I know works for other owners.
If it's booming, then try putting the sub in a different position..
I set the crossoever at 80hz and the "volume" at about 70%.
Mine is about 3 feet from the rest of the TV and about 10 inches out from the wall. Sounds fine.
A lot of people on other forums set the crossover at 120 so I've read.
Time to rearrange the furniture, AndyP! There are places in my sitting room where the sub sounds boomy, but it doesn't in the main sitting areas - that's what counts. BTW I'm using a REL sub with my Kefs so I can't comment on settings.
Take a look at:

Although this is aimed at REL subs., a lot of the setup advice in there is sure to be generally applicable.
