Question:
I have a friend in Australia who has sent me a DVD-R disc which I tried to play in my Pioneer dcs303(R2), but it won't play it. I then tried the DVD-R in my PC and it can play on the PC ok.
I have checked in the pioneer handbook and it says it will play DVD-r if the recording was in DVD Video, but not if in Video Recording format. Also Unfinalized DVD-R cannot be played. I am not sure what this means. Can anyone explain what this means.
When you record a dvd-r,you must 'finalise' it,to incorporate dvd standards.Unfinalised will not play on any machines(probably).
Dvd-r's are not a simple thing. Some will play on some machines, but not others,it is a merry etc.Cheap dvd-r are much less likely to have general acceptance by players than the more expensive makes(TDK,Verbatim).Hope that helps a bit;i do not have any knowledge of the "Video Recording format".Others hopefully will.Best wishes.
VR mode only applies to DVD-RW recordings. You can set the Pioneer DVR7000 recorder to one of 32 different quality settings.
It's true that cheapo DVD-R wont always play in supposedly
compatible players. I've learned by experience and just stick to the likes of Traxdata, Datasafe and E-Proformance (which are
getting cheaper all the time). There's no need to pay over the odds for TDK, Pioneer, Verbatim etc.
Thank you Napoleon & keoma for replies.
If it was a case that the disc was unfinalised would the PC not also have trouble playing the DVD-R?
As for the DVD-R being a cheap one or a well known brand I'm not sure about.
Once again thanks guys for you input.
